I remember flying over Longtown in a Lynx (blimey 20 years ago!) and therunway was intact. In the PSL book it states that Longtown may have been intended for more than a satellite airfield, anyone know if thats true?

Sunday Jan.30th. 1944 forty min. sortie in Halifax pilot F/O Jones with pupil pilots on Heavy Conversion course. I was at RAF Burnfoot Grading School flying Tiger Moths, solo at 10 hrs. Feb.28th. but due to log-jam at Heaton Park Manchester did not get to EFTS in S. Rhodesia until March '45 !

Burnfoot, like so many grass field Flying Training airfields shows virtually no trace of its WW2 use.:

I assume that accommodation was in Nissen huts and that there was a couple of Blister hangars?
