Hello from me ....I was born in Wigan but haved lived in Leicestershire for 20 years. The first 2 airfields I ever visited were at Burscough (Fleet Air Arm I think) when I got lost in '76 looking for the cricket ground! and Burtonwood, where I (unsuccessfully) tried to learn to drive in '78. Ever since then I've been getting lost and bumping into them all over the place ....including France and Northern Europe.

Been to quite a few with good friend and fellow AiX member Stevie. Got a good digital camera with a 48x zoom ..........so lets go!! :D

Welcome to the forum. You got steady hands or tripod with that zoom?
Look forward to your posts.

Hi Mick, I left Wigan a little before you in 1960 to join the RAF, and now live in Kent, visited Burtonwood regularly in the late 50s, when it was a real flying base, also went to Stretton on several occasions when they were still flying Wyverns.

Robin.

Hiya Robin, nice meeting you all. I saw Burtonwood gradually being broken up over the years travelling up to my mothers, wish I had a good camera then. WOW Westland Wyvern that was one brute of an aircraft the only one I've seen was a grounded early prototype at Yeovil a few years back.

Steve mate, that metallic clanging in the brush was what spooked me more than anything....next time we need more than one dodgy torch as well!!!

By the way can you remember where that Lightening was parked in that field on the way to Grafton?

I'm sure it was the vandalised and graffited up Lightning that we saw when we were zooming down the A1 a while back. It's actually parked up on the remains of the old Balderton airfield in Nottinghamshire. Not that much looked like it remained there. We must have been heading down to Woolfox i think!!!

Check out the link mate. I'm sure thats the one....
