Just joined after seeing the thread in Flypast-Forum, on which I've been a member for some years, having bought the magazine from it's inception (1981) till around the late-'90's.

I also used to attend the Flypast-Fly-in's, again from their inception thru to well into the new-century.
I had regular access to North-Weald for many years, though I've always kept the same call-sign ('Hornchurch') as I lived on the perimeter of the old airfield for 17 years before moving to the coastline 125 miles North !
(now opposite a NATO bombing-range ! Lol).

Was building aircraft-kits since the 1960's, being bought-up on the staple-diet of (many) Airfix/Frog/Revell-kits & Commando-Comics & such !!!!!!

Was part of the Hornchurch IPMS that runs the 'Southern-Expo' show & links with Hannant's & other kit-traders.

ALWAYS been smitten with Old-Airfields; the romantiscism & history & inexplicable draw that they create - like a Football-stadium does to it's fans = 'Hallowed-Ground' !!!!!!!!

Main a/c interest is in Bombers, particularly 8th/9th A.F. airfields, of which I've toured many since the late '70's, particularly B.26 Marauder-bases & (latterly) B.24 bases.
Same applies to RAF Bomber-Command & Stirlings, Halifaxes, etc.

Also into Motorcycles & Guitars among other things......

Sounds (of) great (interest to me)....having a site dedicated to Airfields !!

Hi Hornchurch,

Welcome and glad you like the idea - this is why we started it! I'm sure you'll have a lot to offer, given your "CV"!

If you're particularly interested in the the East Anglian airfields, there are a few people around here who are very familiar with them and their histories, especially of the 8th and 9th US Air Forces and the sub-devisions of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Bombardment Divisions.

Hope you enjoy your stay with us and see you around the forums.

Cheers,

Chris

Hi Hornchurch

I fully understand what you mean when you say about the draw that the Airfields have. I get a real buzz when i visit them, they all have a sense of drama. The more i do the more i want to do.
