The hospital was almost entirely photographically documented before demolition.

Before the RAF left in 1947 they had apparently managed to burn down the original main hall!
If the place was demolished, what happened to the memorial? Is it still on site?

I assume that the memorial was attached to a remaining building after the demolition.
The admin block, chapel, and 2 wards still remain in very poor condition; they are (eventually) to become part of the new development.
There are also some other surviving buildings still owned by the NHS that were ancillary to the main asylum.

Took a visit to the site yesterday as it's only 5 mins from my house. A good friend now lives on the new estate and diagonally opposite (the now derelict) Orchard House (the former Lincs NHS trust Admin HQ) which was the building the plaque was attached to
Photos of it on another site show the memorial in situ as of early 2012 but alas I found no trace other than the old screw holes!
I can only hope that it has either been relocated to another Lincs NHS trust department location - or worse, it's been "lifted"
Kind Regards

Was Orchard House the part that was still open some years after the rest of the main asylum was closed?

Yes according to the web reading and articles in the local rag. Orchard House was where No 4 RAF Hospital was based and burns victims treated. Despite the assumption that everything has gone, there are a few buildings remaining albeit fence off some are modern (i.e. the one the plaque was on) and at least two of the old wards and the chapel remain
The Greylees estate is now very extensive but there are still areas which remain to be developed a slow up in the building / housing market has possibly caused the delay in full demolition
Sadly this does not solve the puzzle of where the plaque has gone. I may contact Lincs NHS Trust to see if they know!

A repeat of another thread on this location elsewhere on this forum . . .

Yes please do keep us informed.
The last time I had a look the two wards, the central admin block and the chapel were still awaiting conversion and were more or less open to the elements. I assume that little has changed from what you say.
The chapel has also suffered an arson attack in the last few years. It's all very sad.

I didn't realise there were two Rauceby threads! I might look at merging them together when I get on the PC.

Already done!
Have now got contact details for Lincolnshire NHS Trust. I will send them an email to ask/see if they know what happened to it (and any other material from the greater site)
Double checked and the last dated photo of the plaque (still) on the wall was Aug 2011
