View Full Version : ZIMBABWE - Moffat Field
Moffat Field, Rhodesia Air Trg Group (Gweru ,Zimbabwe)
I worked on Zimbabwe Hawks 1983/4 at Thornhill AFB ,just WNW of Gweru.
I was also a member of the Midlands Gliding Club at Moffat Field - which was an Observer/AG school during WW2,flying Oxfords I think.
The old Tower was our clubhouse/workshop and I think that the square veg patch in foreground of the first pic was indeed the signals square.
The airfield is SSE of the town, next to railway line, not far from smoke on GE (Bata Factory)

Original Tower (pic taken 1983) whilst in use as the Midland Gliding Club clubhouse.
Moffat Field was part of the Rhodesian Air Training Group, opened Aug 1941 as 24 CAOS (combined air observers school) but later renamed 24 BGNS (bombing gunnery and nav school).
Using Battle,Anson and Oxford a/c
