Sadly the memorial on the wall at the Church in Windrush has been damaged by this cold weather we have had recently. The top half of it has broken off, it was not to been seen around so I assume it is stored somewhere.

Photo taken on 12 March 2010

The plaque on the Tower, photographed on the same day;

I was part of the team that organised the erection of the memorial at Windrush. I was shocked to see the state of the stone. I contacted Allan White who was the main man in getting the stone and told him of the condition of it. I will contact the Vicar and see if I can can get another stone made to replace the damaged one.

Hi Ian, many thanks for posting those, nice to see it there again.

Blimey everyone seems to be in my old stomping ground of late! :)

I'll try and pop over for a look when I'm back home in September. I haven't been to Windrush for ages and finding a box of old negatives from the 80's last weekend made me feel all nostalgic. :)

It can't be worth the trouble as scrap, I wonder if it was a "collector"?

My thoughts exactly ! Either way a despicable thing to do.

The plaque has been found-at an RAF station not a million miles away. How it got there is a matter of conjecture, no doubt the truth will come out. Definitely not an authorised removal though.

Hopefully it will be back in its rightful place soon once a more robust fixing system has been devised.
