View Full Version : Inverness - Aviation Fuel Distribution Depot WW2
I though we had covered this one but can't see it in the thread list.
This is it I reckon:
I thought we had it covered as well.
This is the post-war aerial of the site
The site is on the northetn edge of Longman airfield, which explains the expanse of grass.
There's a nice oblique of Longman airfield on CANMORE but the fuel farm is out of picture.
Its also a blank space outline in a dotted line on the record site plan. If only it was drawn on!
It's already on my present list. I notice my list contains a lot more installations than the "As built" list so how do I get a PDF file into a post?
I think you can attach a PDF if not zip it up and post that.
I think the lists we seem to have used for wartime ones stop early 1944. There could be some added between then and the end of the war.
Yes, I am certain there were later additions but the record indicates that they would have been 'C' type tanks not 'D' type so more easily eradicated if the site(s) have been redeveloped.
Thought I had added some pictures here so will have to dig them out later.
I took a few pictures on the way past today. The rest are on MyCanmore (http://canmore.rcahms.gov.uk/en/site/203159/contribution/inverness+longman+airfield/).
Thanks Martin; for the useful photographs.
Re my Post #7, from you pictures - apart from two obvious 'C' Type cylinder tanks - most tanks on site are mounded 'D' types.
