I'm assuming that this is it:

Not sure if the earlier URL had all these.

RAF Windyheads Hill WWII VHF Direction Finder (http://www.flickr.com/photos/doffcocker/sets/72157628704884757/with/6171408327/)

I think they are all on MyCanmore - can I put a word in for MyCanmore. It enables you to add notes, comments and photographs to RCAHMS records. They are quite good at adding new records so it is worth adding any photographs there so they are available for "posterity".

Martin, good of you to follow-up on my original post of two years ago. I must have picked up the link when browsing.

Thank you also for the 'pointer' to MyCANMORE; I use the site regularly but was unaware of that feature usually because I am a hit and run user who knows what I'm looking for and not much of a 'browser'

It was a bit slow for the first year, there was only a handful of us uploading images. But in the last month or so the numbers have increased. Initially they hosted the images on Flickr but there was a meeting for users in Edinburgh and several commented that they would prefer them to be on Commission servers so they now have them there which makes it faster.

That's good. I must take time to see how I can input. Just wish the rest of UK was covered in a similar format.

You just register then you can add Text or Photos.

There is no standard procedure for getting records added if none there, in the past I have just used the info EMail address and it gets forwarded on. I have a name to contact direct now which can be quite quick.

I think there was at least one more of these at the site. Similar markers have been noted at other DF sites and are presumed to have been used during calibration.

They could be connected with the GEE site but that seems unlikely.

The GEE station

RAF Windy Head WWII GEE Radio Navigation Station

Part of the Northern Chain which was operational from 14th November 1942. Initially could not be used at the same time as the Eastern Chain which were on the same frequency but later upgraded to GEE II.

Northern Chain
Master Burifa Hill
Monitor Burifa Hill
Slave Scousborough
Slave Windy Head
Slave Sango

There are several of these around the hillside, it is believed they were for use when calibration the DF station though could have been associated with the GEE station.

Are there RSP's for all these sites as it would useful to compare remaining structure with them?

The pictures of Windyheads

I might have asked before, is the VHF DF site at Windyheads the last survivor? I don't remember anyone every saying that there was a similar survivor anywhere else.

Some pictures on FOLD3 (http://www.fold3.com/image/1/32040880/)that seem to be inside this style of DF building. There are others near this one in the filmstrip.
