This is the headstone to Thomas Keppel North. According to the information I have he was 'helplessly backward' at school always bottom of the class. His only interest was with Guns. His parents encouraged this and sent him off to the Colt gun makers in America. Soon after this he was working for Vickers Armstrong on the design team. He died aged 43 of influenza just months before the non-stop flight from Newfoundland to Ireland. Alcock and Brown got £10,000, for their achievement of this, Thomas North received a Vickers Vimy on his headstone. This lies within Rougham churchyard, roughly 8 miles north of Swaffham, Norfolk.
