View Full Version : Hi, Keefyboy from Loughborough
Hi all I am a disabled man now living in Loughborough, but originally from Southend On Sea, I was brought up in Southend On Sea and always had a good interest in Southend Airport for many years, I even attended the Air Training Corp (1312) at the airport, I used to go to the airport with a friend and we used to sit up on a Pillbox on the railway property up by the earth sound barrier taking the numbers of the planes as they landed or taxi'ed round to the main buildings to load or unload passengers. We did this many times until either the local police or British Transport Police making us leave. This carried on for many years until we moved out of the area to Basildon, but it did not stop my interest in the airport. Later on in life I got an interest in all the old airfields in Essex and started looking around, finding the old RAF Hornchurch also at Willingale, Silver End and Bradwell, visiting all the locations to see what remained. Even though I am disabled I still have a good interest in not only the Essex airfields but now the old airfields in Leicestershire, so this forum is just the thing for me. :D
Welcome to the forum Keith ( I take it that you are a Keith!) Plenty of information on here for you to trawl through in the meantime eh? :)
Welcome to the forum. Flew into Southend from Biggin Hill on my one and only flying lesson. Also remember the old museum there, can't recall its name though.
Hi Keefyboy, It's great to welcome someone fairly local to me to the site. I'm from Leicester. You have one of my fave airfields not far from you over at Wymeswold. Anyway, i hope you enjoy the forum mate.
All the best,
Hi welcome to the forum, have you any old photos of Southend Airport?
Thanks for the great welcome guys, and its nice to be here.I have already had a nose around some of the threads and hopefully I can add a bit to them.
I will post what I have on the relevant airfields, Southend and Rivenhall as this is not really the right thread to put it on. I have a few memories of RAF Hornchurch but as you know now there is nothing left except memories, the greed of building houses.
Stevie I will catch up with you on Wymeswold after a conversation with someone yesterday which made me find this group and boy am I glad I did.
and Yes it is Keith....
Hi Keith, Pleased that you found this lucrative forum....hours of pleasure ahead......, Paul.
Hi & Welcome,
Just curious, but do you still have the aircraft numbers?, if so you might be able to track the history and any photos that were taken of the aircraft and posted on internet sites.
Hello Keefyboy....I live in Narborough which is just a bit south of you. We've got some great airfields around here. Welcome and enjoy mate.
Welcome Keefyboy , does your disability interfere with your mobility? Old airfields are not wheelchair friendly so AiX can be your wheels.
Hello mate - always good to see new faces...
I would love to hear more about Silver End/Rivenhall should you get the chance...
Keith any idea where the BHQ is at Southend? Its a rare MS2279 of 1940 and by the way welcome to the forum!
