View Full Version : Goldington
Goldington WW1 airfield
No.75 Squadron formed at Goldington on Oct. 01st 1916. as a Home Defence unit flying Avro 504 NF and Be.2C. Left in Sept 1917 for Elmswell.
Flying field was near Jackmans Farm North of the A428 now covered in housing.
Would welcome any other reports on this forgotten field.
Hi T-21, have you spoke with BLARS as they hold a lot of info on the land rights from 1901 and I remember seeing Jackmans listed as being tenanted by George Walker.
I dont know a great deal about the site, but i'm lead to believe it was part of Cleathill Rifle Ranges that were over the road.
For those looking for the site its not actually in Goldington Bedford (then outside the Bedford Borough boundary) the farm is in what's now called the Putnoe area of bedford, the farmhouse was under the houses at very north end of Trent Road... FE link below.

The ranges were under Mowsbury Golf Course, and I have suspicion that the first era of butts is still in woodland on the golf course, but the second (further west) have been robbed out. .... FE link below.
