View Full Version : New memorial in Denbighshire
The aircraft was Washington WF502, it broke up in mid-air, the outer wings and tail broke off after what was reported to be an in flight fire in the starboard wing.
No trace of an engine related failure was found by the Accident Investigation Branch. They concluded that the fire which caused the starboard wing to come off was caused by either hot metal or an electical spark coming into contact with fuel.
Following the failure of that wing the port outer wing was brought off by aerodynamic loading and the tail was porbably struck by one of the wings and most of the rear fuselage tore off.
What was left fell into a wood and was destroyed by fire.
