BELGIUM - Poperinge

Dear all,

Whilst on Holiday in Belgium this year doing a tour of the Ypres Salient, came accross this airfield near Poperinge in West Flanders. German aircraft landed here in 1940 but never stayed here. During this period this "Tower" was built. Any further information would be appreciated. Im no expert in German aviation architecture but this does look like a water tower. I couln't get access to the other side of the land to get a view of the rear of the structure.

Thanks for posting those mate. If it is a water tower, it's a very grand one. It'll be interesting to find out just what it is/was.

Hello Mick,
Certainly a solid structure eh? If it were built as a water treatment plant it has a very unusual shape for that purpose.

Many thanks to JVM for the information, West Flanders is one of my most visited places, usually for "The Great War". Very good site indeed. Got plenty of images Denis M8, not that many relating to 39-45 though.
