I recently read in a discussion on a Flickr Milton Keynes group that Loughton in Milton Keynes was once an airfield. I have never heard of this before and so I wondered if anyone had any information to share?

In the early(?) 1930's the Automobile Association of Britain compiled a list of landing grounds suitable for light aircraft. Loughton (Bucks) was one of them and located at NGR SP845350.

Milton Keynes as a new town did not exist then so this is the site new and old:

No problem. Did you notice anything in the area on any recent visits? I must confess I haven't noticed anything, so assume there is nothing left of it.
I know of the Loughton in Essex, an ex of mine now lives there!

I live in Loughton, MK. Regretfully there is nothing left of the airfield. Housing is now on the site, where the landing field use to be. The Fountain Inn, is now known as the Harvester/Fountain. I have a poster of the pub/aircraft, somewhere in my village archive, I will try and find it and post up.

Flying Tiger, if you can find it, do post it, it would be nice to see it!
I bet the people living there have no idea that they are living on a former landing site! If only beanhill (where I live) had a past as interesting as that.
