Just a couple from Gorleston, Suffolk.

Gorleston 24 Air Sea Rescue unit, RAF memorial on Brush Quay opposite the Pier Hotel.

A fitting memorial for those unsung heroes.

HSL 2706 was lost with virtually all hands in a tragic "friendly fire" accident when two P-47s returning to Martlesham Heath mistook her and some companion HSLs for a group of German E-Boats off the Dutch coast while attempting to pick up some downed aircrew.

HSL 108 was captured on July 1st 1941 during an attempted recovery and was later used in the same ASR role by the Germans.

HSL 2551 was attacked and sunk by enemy aircraft 15 miles off the coast of Occupied Europe on June 29th 1944 while picking up the crew of B-17 42-97830. The survivors, including three USAAF aircrew wounded in the attack, were picked up by another HSL operating from Great Yarmouth.
