Hi Paul ;-)

I considered doing Mount Pleasant a while back but stopped due to lack of information, photos. I did get some and I did build the shelters for the fighter aircraft and started to model the main hangar but that's about it. If you would like to use them then send me a PM on ACG.

Paul,

Its true, pictures are few and far between of MPA, but it cant be that difficult! It features on Google maps (as does stanley complete with Black Buck crater scars) and the buildings are all pretty much built to the same pattern, so you should be able to pull a few pictures off the net somewhere.

Hangarettes are all the same as are Sqn buildings and that only leaves the likes of the timmy hangar and 78's, would be cool to see tho!!

I can't imagine why anyone would want to do anything about MPA other than get the hell out of it pronto! IMHO, an absolute hell-hole!

Never mind about RAF Mount Pleasant (and I was part of the team that did the original siting for that place!)
What about RAF Stanley? Where, if anywhere, is the history of that short lived RAF Station to be found? I did 4 years (on and off) at Stanley. Most of what happened there would not be believed - but it should be recorded somewhere!

Remember finding the ATC Stanley logbooks in a few filing cabinets in 1992 in MPA ATC, they made interesting reading especially the various Harrier crashes and other incidents. Would guess they would have been disposed of soon after !

Got via video and now on DVD shots of the tower and Stanley airport tower so if I can work out how to get stills I'll post them as well.

Late reply but you obviously missed the joys of the 'old' 303 SU Mt Kent. What a place! If you reckoned you'd died and gone to RAF Hell that place would be it. I did 2 back to back tours there (no R&R) 'cos we were were shorthanded. The FS Ops asked me if I'd like to do a 3rd. He didn't ask me twice.. Then damn me..back in the UK for 6 months and my place came up for Byron..Ahhhhhhh!

F-4 in its home

http://i211.photobucket.com/albums/bb26/SCARECROW450/scan0023.jpg

I remember going down to MPA on the Tristar, sound asleep for most of it, waking up and lifting the window blind to find 2 F4's (our escort) stacked up off the port wing with the sun rising behind. No camera with me in the cabin. It's a shot I've alway regretted missing.

And some Falklands miscellaneous, also from December 1991.
Regarding the first, the naming of roads on the new Mount Pleasant military base was delegated to the Services, who came up with some oddities. It's an old one, but the best in my view was the RAF Police HQ being down Letsby Avenue. There was also a Whale Way and, I am sure, others in that vein.

Great pics and memories, remember 'Petrel Lane' for the refueling pumps !

A workmate has just come back from his 4 months down South and Letsby Av doesn't exist anymore, think they've just removed the street sign ! Plus the numbers of bars have been reduced by about 2/3's !

In your group pic of F-4, Lynx and S-61 think it was an open day and my pics earlier were taken on that day as well !
Just found my log book and the open day was 1st Dec 1991, for the record !

Great shots bringing back even more memories, and we were down there about the same time !
Of course in Albert square their bar was the Queen Vic ! ATC's was Castaways.
Ground radio sections cats were Tacan and Radar, I couldn't put on this forum the fire sections cat's name !
