Hi Noel,

A 100 mtr radius isn't so far away! Glad you found the info useful though. It's on the A608/A611 roundabout. This source from the Ashfield District Council web site.

Ahh, you are all jumping to conclusions too quick! Yes I know it's only a grid square and shouldn't take much finding, but....

I rang a relative he lives nearby, he's not heard of it, after asking his neighbours he rang back, nobody he asked knew of it.

I'm sure it must be there hence the question about a specific location, strangely I posted this in the memorial research forum, hmmmm.

If I find it tomorrow I'll post a few pics, may even tell you all where it is.

BTW Not guilty re the origin of the maycrete urban myth, know who is though !!!!

I reckon there's some credence in this NJR. How many of these small memorials, especially to individual aircraft and their crews, have been forgotten? There must be plenty around - let's get doing some desktop research!

:( My comment was about the mis-spelling of the aircraft name.

Robin.

Cheers Robin, duly corrected. I used to spell hangar with an "e" as well. Try doing that on here and NP will really shout at you!

This is what I was after!

"Hello Noel

The Stirling memorial site is at the junction of the A611 and the A608 near Sherwood Business Park and just outside the Care Home that is just off the junction. Hope that helps

Phil"

The road running out of the bottom of the picture is the A608 about half a mile east of junct 27 of the M!. Road running L to R is the A611. Horizontal arrow shows the memorial, at about SK507528, or E450720 N352840 if you prefer.
Vertical arrow is the crash site, Larch trees now grow on it.
Village behind annesley forest is Newstead. Colliery site now being developed.

Sorry for the poor quality of the aerial image, I don't know how to add arrows to a picture, so I printed it and used a marker pen!
