View Full Version : Winkfield
Can anyone give me an exact location for this RLG? I have reference to it but can't find a location or even a plan / map of it.
Thanks

I used to live down the road from here  PJH may have something Rich for his AR article.
This photo I gleaned form the web years ago covers the same spot. This one does look like an airfield.

This obviously pre-dates the des-res built around 2002. But what are the crop marks visible on GE in the earlier AP layers?

There was a Minitrack satellite tracking station there for a while PNK http://www.britishpathe.com/video/winkfield-minitrack-station

Spot on buccaneer66. A plan will be coming your way in a few months REF. In the meantime I'll confirm the grid reference when I get home.

Thanks PJH - look forward to seeing the plans!!
As promised REF, the grid ref for Winkfield is SU908729 and is as per PNK's photo.
I'm a little surprised that the AM allowed this name as Winfield, Winkleigh and Winkton were also used.

Today, asking one of my customer's the location of Winkfield RLG, he gave the directions telling me that around 35 years ago most of it was removed. Living along Winkfield lane, he told me of the old radar tower's that were there, also the wooden hut's that were vandalised by the local kids. Along-side the White Hart pub [Winkfield Street] is a small track that leads up-to the old landing ground. I walked up this, it's now fenced-off with animals and tree's. Though whether these buildings were part of the landing area I've no-idea. He told me that the wooden hut's were demolished after the vandalism, also that a perimeter-track was there. I did notice various pieces of tarmac under this green camouflage.
