Stafford Council want to build a huge compost site on Hixon and Stowe Airfield that will ruin the history and countryside of the whole area and destory the airfield and all its significance. I hope that you have heard about this and I would like to know how people feel about it and invite you to join the campaign to stop it from ever happening.I am pleased to find that there are organisations out there that care to capture the history of our country. Look forward to hearing from you.

No neither of those links work either Carnaby. I have seen the doc though and it completely disregards the WW2 landscape as being of any heritage value. Archaeology is brushed aside too. A bit un-professional in my opinion. I mean how obvious can it be. its a a WW2 airfield with runways and buildings etc. Any development such as this will have a huge impact on the landscape and heritage. I thought EH were supposed to be looking for WW2 landscapes for scheduling purposes before they are all gone?
What is it about local gov sites - what works one day doesn't the next. (I guess that says it all!)
Just checked them and their URLs have changed completely. NO point in reposting. Best bet is to go to http://www.staffordshire.gov.uk and type 'Hixon' into the search box at the top. You should get three hits.

Posters original link now "fixed".
Thank you for your replies. I will keep you posted.![]()
The Hixon Bomb Store was located awkwardly in respect to the airfield, possibly due to the lack of space forced by two railways and surrounding hamlets. It also appears to have had only two HE Bomb Stores instead of the usual four, again due to lack of space?

Anyone know why the floodlight trailer shed has rails coming out of it? I assume they are a later addition?

Curious; did you measure the gauge?
