Here is the press release from Stobart Group. Beware, lots of financial mumbo-jumbo, but some interesting background to the acquisition:

Reuters are reporting today that Southend Airport has been sold to the Stobart Group for £21m. No doubt one way out of their problems at Carlisle is to buy an airport somewhere else!

What will this mean for the XL426 group??
They will have to write "Eddie Stobart" all over the top of the wings and paint a girl's name on the front!!!
blimey how things change!...
I used to work in Carlisle for Ford Racing based on the Blackdyke Stobbies complex (now the 'Stobarts Rally Team') and it was all doom and gloom for the future (before Tinkler bought out the brand) so its nice to see things change.
I presume that in the report by 'Carlisle' airport they mean Brampton (where I lived) and the old MOD Carlisle?
JCB, lol had few friends with their names on waggons (Stephanie Simmonite and Rachel Simmonite and others) and you know you have made 'it' if your names on a stobbies waggon![]()
