A visit with NJR recently allowed us to have a closer look at the existing buildings on the former technical site (thanks to those who allowed us). Some interesting details revealed themselves and the following are a sample (all 23/05/12)

Bdg No. 64, Surface Air Raid Shelter

Crew locker & drying room interior

    Further images (all 23/05/12)

Bdg No. 84, Main Workshops. Drg No. 5857/42

A closer look reveals a painted arrow on the wall (a similar arrow can also be found on the main stores)

And above the doors, the faded legend 'STATION WORKSHOPS'

A few more from the same visit.

    Parachute Store

Despite being 'derelict', the interior is really clean and unvadalised (apart from a couple of inches of bird........)

Pulley wheels still in situ in the roof. Parachutes would have been drawn up to air and dry above the folding and packing bench which ran the full length of the building directly below

Some images from the other side of the airfield. Note these pictures were taken airside with the pre sought permission of the airfield manager.

DME at the north of the airfield, sited on a frying pan dispersal.

    Modern day hangars.

Control tower, the building with Gamston on it was the original 'new' control tower.

    WW2 northern peritrack extension.

    Refuelling facility.

And the view from the tower, note Lancaster painting.
