    Some images from the other side of the airfield. Note these pictures were taken airside with the pre sought permission of the airfield manager.

    DME at the north of the airfield, sited on a frying pan dispersal.



    Modern day hangars.





    Control tower, the building with Gamston on it was the original 'new' control tower.



    WW2 northern peritrack extension.

    A few pictures taken on a visit to Gamston on 6th January 2015

    What is the grass banked area? Fuel or Bomb storage
    and what are the metal T Hooks with Rings for

    I see you found the bomb stores. And rifle range, so you had a good stroll round. The rings and cleats were for ropes to ease loading/unloading. I hope the ILS doesn't quarantine another big chunk of the county's sky. Finningley hogged enough.

    We've been asked this question several times and I note the forum search failed to find the relevant thread (as it often does). Had to use Google which found it immediately - a useful hint passed on to me recently.

    Wow brilliant reply and even a map.......much appreciated a great help I found the concrete roadway and remains of the Nissen Huts etc in that area your map shows me I found the three Nissen Huts that were in that area
    My next task is to explore other areas on the old site.......legally of course!!!!

    I have been trying to obtain a copy of the History of RAF Stations Ossington and Gamston during World War II by William Taylor but no luck so far maybe Bookworm in Retford may be able to find a copy
