Thread: Fearn

    Default Fearn

I was sent these images some time ago. Terrific paintings inside the former wardroom, and a distinctive flying control tower.

What is the latest on Fearns' Tower? It was due to be sold and turned into a dwelling.
BTW might be best to retitle this thread Fearn/HMS Owl.

The tower is currently in private hands, with this purpose in mind. Nothing much has happened, a new fence has been put up, but that's about it. I suspect the listed status has put a stop to the plans. Some rather large holes have been created in the internal walls though

I fear these may be to hasten the deteriation of the structure

Some of them are rather handy for accessing the upper levels though

Regarding the artwork in the accomodation site, it was still there last year :

Though, given the state of the roof, and last winters heavy snow, I don't know if they've survived

There's a nice wee 'survivor' in the hospital block too :

    Hope this helps

Meteor NF.14, s/n WS774 at Fearn. An old gate guard from Ely. This photo feature on the cover of an old Airfield Review but I forget which one. Photo taken in May 1996.

The tower was for sale when I was there in 2011, I heard that it had now been sold so must have a look sometime.
