Ive just been watching 633 Squadron on ITV4, fantastic flying sequences but then again Im a Mossquito fan. But apart from that the film is dire, George Chakaris as a Norwegian!!!! And thats just the start, I wont bore with the rest of my criticism Ill leave that to Barry Norman.

I saw it too. As a kid the film was fantastic but as I got older it looked more and more tacky, especially the explosions which look like something from Thunderbirds. The flying made up for it though.

If I remember right from the book, he was an ex eagle squadron bod who stayed in the RAF instead if transferring to the USAAF.

For the simple reason that it was made by an American company, and an American would sell tickets in the states. I read on Wiki that the book on which its based was itself an amalgamation of various RAF exploits, and I agree with that. To me its a sort of poor mans Dambusters.

According to ControlTowers website, the tower at Bovingdon has been recently demolished. Anyone know more?

Gutted to read about the tower, though in a way, I'm surprised it lasted as long as it did. Bovingdon is another airfield on my to-do list, as it's ex-Eighth Air Force, but don't think there'll be much there for me to find now. And to think I nearly called at Bovingdon on my way home from the War and Peace show last year! I presume that old nemesis "Health & Safety" are to blame, or is something planned for that area?
