I visited Little Walden briefly last Sunday, and on my visit I pulled over into a lay by just along from the control tower. I was wondering - could this surface in the lay by possibly be the original runway surface?

The lay by is in the location here, on the B1052
I'd imagine it would have been part of the runway but I suspect it would have been covered by tarmac or another surface. I am not really an expert on runway surfaces though! Hopefully one of the others can tell you more.
Nice pics as well.
I should have elaborated before. The concrete surface of the lay by goes underneath the more modern road surface. That's what made me think it might have been original. Hopefully will go back soon, I would like to see that picket post building! Wherever it is...
Looking at a photo overlay of Little Walden superimposed on Google Earth one of the main runways ran there and the B road was laid on top so yes, the surface visible in that lay-by is runway.

AIR10/4038 states that Little Walden had 'Concrete and Wood Chippings' as the Landing Area. It is known that there are a very significant number of inaccuracies in this document.
