The tower is leased from the Farmer by Ratheon for calibration testing. There is another former wartime building on the other side of the airfield, that apparently has the same job. I may have a pic of that somewhere that I shall post later.
Actually that why I went there, it will form my card for the 391st BG memorial group for next Christmas!CDP wrote-That's the AiX/ARG 2009 Christmas cards sorted then!![]()
Ok, heres the image of the other building operated by Raytheon on Matching airfield. The radar test equipment is not mounted on this building, it is alongside. I will award twenty points if someone can tell me what that building originally was. It was situated alongside, or very near the Western T2, I have not a clue as to type or use as I do not have a detailed plan of Matching unfortunately. To the right of this building you can just about make out the top of the high level water tower that stands on the Officers site.

They change the antenna/array or whatever they call them on a regular basis PaulHP.
The nosecone is a test cone for nose mounted aircraft radar that the company produces, It has been there quite a while now.
Could that be a nose cone from a Javelin?
Looks good, i'd like to make a trip to Matching. Is there a dedicated Memorial? and other buildings scattered around?
There is a memorial to 391st Bombardment group up near the airfield industrial estate, and a couple of plaques in the village church (which is way out of the village!)
There are lots of other buildings scattered around.
Is that Matching Village or Matching Green village?
