    Historymadd - I've just read your posts on UKAR regarding work already being started on knocking the tower down. I was really looking forward to having a look at some of the remaining buildings here when I visit the airshow in May. Looks like It'll probably be to late now.

    I drove past this afternoon (26 Jan 2014) and can confirm the Tower is no longer there, the pile of rubble on the left of this pic is what is left of it. Excuse the quality, photo taken from the road looking into the sun and heavily cropped!

    hi there looks like the rest of the building have received the same fate :{

    the brick bit left in your photo was the old ground radio building and part of the old airfield lighting system

    The control tower has gone? Also when did Abingdon move to Berkshire?

    Until 31st March 1974 Abingdon was in Berkshire, and until the mid nineteeth century it was the county town of Berkshire. So now you know!

    Its only the modern control tower thats gone, the old wartime one is still there in use by the Army as offices.

    Apologies for the cars in the way, there was nowhere to get a better view, not that there's much to see.

    There's also some demolition work happening on the opposite side of the runway, I donon't know what the building was but it appears to be the northern most on the east side of the runway

    Sad pics from Abingdon. Why is it that whenever you see a picture of a 360-degree excavator it is always squatting on top of a heap of rubble/soil/scrap iron etc?
