Richard Burns Memorial Rally 2008 - RAF Marham

I was holding onto this until the entries were open and the supplementary regulations were out, which they now are. Kings Lynn & District Motor Club, in association with the Royal Air Force Motor Sport Association are holding the Richard Burns Memorial Rally at RAF Marham, Norfolk on the weekend of 13th-14th September 2008. This is a charity event, with proceeds being split equally between the Richard Burns Foundation and the RAF Benevolent Fund.

    Default Marham

I was invited to II(AC) Squadrons 95th Birthday bash weekend a year or so ago. Here is Marhams fine Officers Mess.

Just something about this style of building, bags of character. The wife and I got to stay over for the weekend. We wondered how many poor souls spent their last night on earth there during the War.

On the subject of FIDO, there was use of it or trials of it at Marham in the fifties.

I have seen a picture of a Valiant taxying past a bloodhound site at Marham. Where was this site at Marham and has anyone got a plan or map?

The Bloodhounds in question were Mk1s from 242sqn from 1/10/1959 to 30/09/1964

The Bloodhound site was to the south of the tower, there is a HAS site on it now. Iwas at Marham when they started building the HASs and the contractors dug up all the copper that had been there for the bloodhound earthing cables.

Canberra, many thanks. I assumed one of the HAS sites would have been built over but didn't know which one. May I ask what year the HASs were built? I have seen aerials from 1956 and 1988 but they both miss the Bloodhound period!

Found a map that shows a fenced area with nothing in it. Could this be the Bloodhound site? The extract shows where the fenced off area is, shown by the red dotted line.
