Wreath laying 20th February - Hunsdon airfield memorial-1200 noon.
A short ceremony will be held to commemorate the 67th anniversary of the Amiens Gaol raid flown from Hunsdon on Friday 18th February 1944.
And in respect of the following aircrew lost while flying the operation:
Group Captain P.E Pickard DSO and two Bars DFC
Flt Lt J.A Broadley DSO DFC DFM
Flt Lt R.W Sampson (Navigator to Squadron Leader Ian McRitchie)

BCF Huts Site 8 (WAAF) Hunsdonbury.
A surprise in the form of formal permission to photograph the remaining BCF hutting at Hunsdonbury was given to us today by the landowner.
The huts are in quite good condition with no major defects, most of the glazing still intact, and the blackout curtain rails in place too! We took a few photos this evening for the forum.

Excellent Denis. I'm really pleased that you've finally been able to have a more in depth look at Site 8 after all this time. Those BCF's are in better condition than i thought they would be actually. Nice one mate.

Yes, it came as a surprise to us too!
Two of them are in rather a good shape, while number three had some internal supports removed to make space, and the four has a large crack running right through it. All are dry though despite ivy creeping through where the pot belly chimney was.
There are two more belonging to a different owner but seperated by a wall that has split the site in two. One is a barrack hut like those shown, the other was a kitchen, and apparently still has the equipment in place. I will get photos of them one day as I now know the owner of those.

Nice to see BCF huts in such good condition Dennis unlike my local examples that are crumbling & soon to be demolished.
I must get down to Hunsdon.
