Is that some sort of blimp hangar behind the tower?
Photographs taken early 1987, not long before sunset.

That is an odd looking hangar, can anyone shed any light on it?
As I remember that hanger was built to accommodate one of the virgin airships with the air ship mast being situated about 50 metres in front of the cessna 152 shown on the right of the photograph I think the date of the photograph may be incorrect because I have a refference to the building of it in the back of my log book dated late 1988.
Thanks Mark, do you have any phtotos of it? It does have an airship look about it
Who is responsible for this graffiti?

I always used to look for easy 'turn points' to photograph for gliding badge flights,I never used the official BGA turn points which were sometimes difficult to find (pre GPS)
At that time (3/9/89) HG had a big 'HG' on the hangar roofs...easy LOL ...Old Sarum - HG - Old Sarum

Photo of Halfpenny Green in 1971 or 72 taken from a PA28 looking along runway 22, scanned from slides...
The unused section of runway 04 and its peri track can be clearly seen top right. This was cut-off by the road leading to the airfield and was later used for storage of hay bales and as an HGV training area. Air 70 ran a flying club based in the control tower at the time, the PA28 is probably G-ATJG, G-ATTF or G-AVSA.
