I was surpised to see no one has posted a photo of the pyro store at Rattlesden. Let me correct that! Taken 14 May 2012:

Probably AM Drawing 5488/42; is it adjacent to the CT?
It is at the NE corner of the control tower area.
There is an interesting remark in the 540 of No 266 Squadron (Bloodhounf Mk 1) for the month of March 1960, which states that the CO had started action to have "the main runway (24/06) cleared a little as this runway is an official emergency landing strip and work on this and repainting the emergency markings has now started".
Has anyone come across this before? Was there ever a list of "official emergency landing strips" in 1960, and what were the "emergency markings" that were repainted?
I was at Rattlesden with Chris (see a couple of posts back) on 31 August last year. Here's a few additional shots from thjat day.

Nice set Peter, the last photo showing the steps, what building is that?
Bit of a mistery I'm afarid. It was extremely overgrown so couldn't get an exterior shot. It was just off the technical site and on three levels. A large cylinder/silo type affair (right hand side of picture) had been punched through the floor and I took this to be something to do with farming but maybe not. I was with a friend and neither of us could identify an original use for the building so if anyone knows I'd be interested to hear.
