The F105 and F102/6 are the only USAF fighters I never clapperd eyes on. Also never mananged to see an SR71.

The sight (and even more the sound) of the SR 71 taking off will live with me forever. Totally awesome!

What about the strange sound an F-104 makes. Haven't seen one of those since the early 70's

I think those three were fairly rare visitors to the UK, I've never heard of an F-106 coming to the UK at all.
F-100, F-101s were based in the UK at various times, and F-104s were fairly common European used fightters.

A good site for lists of USAF aircraft that deployed over here is this one.

On my first visit to Decimomannu I actually saw a line of 65 F104s, all Italain and German.

I think the ones I saw were German. I think the F-104 had a turning circle the size of the Isle of Man or something like that

Canberra, did they fly while you were there?

They certainly did, it was 1983.

Just been looking at Lakenheath in Flash Earth and it looks like a few bits of the pre VHB layout still exist, including loops (the smaller ones) pans and possibly some of the hangars (T2's and a B1?). Has anyone a record of what remains from that period?
