The slides are in a bunch marked as Lakenheath but I have my suspisions that some may be elsewhere, which may include UH. So I am not sure. It also includes air-to-air shots of F111s and I have no idea how we ended up with those. The photographer is long deseased.

    Long time ago.
I had some good times there as a kid during school holidays, I'd often go with my dad to deliver stuff to the base and we would try and time it so we stopped near the end of the runway for lunch to watch the F-111's. Those were the days.

I lived in Northwold, just over the border in Norfolk, between 1979 and 1985 and the airspace in that part of the world could get quite congested at times! As well as the F111's from Lakenheath, there were the A10 Warthogs, Harriers, Jaguars, Victors & Vulcans (and then the Tornadoes) that regularly overflew the area.
My father was a coach driver for Carters of Foulden, and one of the contract runs was to take civilian workers on the bases at Lakenheath & Mildenhall. I remember security being very tight during the various Libyan raids and also during the Falklands conflict. On top of all that, there were the contract runs for workers through the Stanford Battle Area.
All in all, as a teenager with a love for all things military, it wasn't a bad place to be!

I remember being at the last Lakenheath airshow in 1992, and as this was the year when the F-15E's took over, they had a joint display with them and the departing F-111's. As you can imagine, it was quite some display, and very noisy, yet somehow my brother, who was 3 at the time slept through the whole thing sat in his buggy!

My aunt married a yank who was on armaments section with the 48thTFW and he was there from 1990 to 94 or so, I always prefered watching n listening to the 111s from there house on base, you could just seem them through the trees on climb out. I was also at that last airshow, had a sit in a cockpit pod. Would love one of them...
