    Default Brooklands

How about some historic civil aviation structures for a change? Here are a couple of recent views of the Grade II Listed 1932 Brooklands Aero Clubhouse, derelict by the early 1980s, but sympathetically restored as offices by 1988.

    Default Brooklands Pillbox

Here are a couple of photos of the pillbox at Brooklands Museum. I believe it is quite rare - with remains of a rooftop machine-gun post - but I have never identified the type. Can anyone help? The first photo shows it in the 1990s and the 2nd was taken in 2005 after surrounding vegetation had been cleared.

    Default Brooklands

Flight International today carries and interview with Allan Winn, the magazine's former Editor and Publisher and now Director of the Brooklands Museum. When asked what his next major challenge was, his reply states: "Picking up a Grade II listed hangar, moving it 50m and re-establishing it as the Brooklands Aircraft Factory. Its a 3 million project". Which hangar are we talking about?

As an ad on to this post. The plaque on the statue of Barnes Wallis at Herne Bay in Kent, overlooking the Bouncing Bomb Test Site at Reculver, will be re-dedicated on Saturday 16 May 2009, a flypast by the BBMF Lancaster has been requested. This is part of the Cultural Trail Day organised by the Canterbury City Council.
