Is this one at Binbrook the same?
That example is 'on top' of the orignal dump, it being below ground level, as there are(?) other examples down in the dump itself.
I'l try and dig out the photos . . .
Alec it was a general statement by me. Interesting about the NW examples, I had not even noticed that. Though I suspect not all were thickened there, only a few.
This pillbox at RAF Biggin Hill has a non standard mount behind the embrasures (see pic). Any ideas? Possibly for a Lewis gun?
Your pic shows a vertical tubular support into which the pintle of a gun mounting could be located to allow traverse, elevation and depression. I agree, probably for a Lewis but the actual adapter to attach to the gun was probably locally manufactured to suit available weapons so even a Vickers K or similar is likley.
Some Dove stop line pillboxes ( I know they aren't airfield defence but seemed to fit better in this thread than elsewhere!)
PILLBOX: S0006015 (description for this one is incorrectly allocated to S0007321...which doesn't actually exist)
It has been sealed internally as well as externally.
Missed out one (PILLBOX: S0006014) on my walk as it was surrounded by cows .......
......but did take a couple of shots of PILLBOX: S0006015
A couple more from the Dove stop line:
The one I didn't photograph last week due to a severe cow infestation. DoB: S0006014
and a bonus for concrete lovers...one that isn't in the DoB
