Had permission to have a closer look at this today.
The pumphouse stands at the far end of the tin shed (left side of photo), complete with the original steel door, machinery plinth and painted inspection blackboards on the inside wall.
Stinks of fuel in there still too...![]()
Interestingly, one of the doorways has been blocked up and a window fitted. The bricks match the rest of the structure, but whether this was done at the time or just post-war I couldn't say.
Also found a length of runway lighting conduit with cable still in situ embedded in the runway, and a WWII trailer.

I will have the opportunity to visit Grafton Underwood, where my uncle served in 1944-45, on May 30, 2011. I understand from many of your postings that this is not the best time of year to visit, but it is a unique and rare opportunity for me. I would appreciate any advice or cautions with respect to accessing the site. Is it OK to wander aroung the area? Should I contact the property owner in advance? If so, does anyone have contact information for the owner?
Grafton is well worth a visit and the memorial has a lot of useful information there too.
Incidentally whilst walking around the site today, I saw a THIRD Oakington Pillbox in a field just off the junction of the No1 and No2 runways. (OS Grid SP919813) which appears unreported in the usual places (Pillbox Study Group etc) Quite untidy with the gun rail detached and a large block of concrete on one side in an apparent attempt to demolish it though it is still standing!
