    Default WOOLSTON - R J Mitchell & Spitfire Memorial

I took this poor quality photograph in 1985 with a pokey little camera. Thankfully the only one I have... I think? Anybody got a better one ??

    Still there, taken 27.7.2010.
As you can see the area has changed a fair amount.

Nearby and on the water side in Spitfire Court are these.

Yes the memorial is on the site of the beautiful Art Deco Supermarine office block, that once stood on that site. Of all the local authoritys to have complete disregard for their wartime heritage, Southampton beats the lot. Remember Eastleigh, Woolston plus all its sub-sites along the river and Tichfield - all raised to the ground without any recording.

A general view of the memorial area and its proximity to the River Itchin (& the Itchin Bridge)
