I seem to remember one at North Weald, but it must be close to the M11 now. I have to say the don't look particularly safe as the concrete mushroom is much larger than its support and a nearby blast might have toppled it.

What does "FC" stand for or am I being daft here??
It is an odd design, I guess it was so they could have unrestricted 360 degree visibility around it. Are there many of this type left?
Richard
Not sure what FC stands for but the company was FC Construction. There are 10 at Oakington, plus a few elswhere (two at Bicester and one at Hunsdon for example).
Clyffe Pypard has several as well.

Something similar to the Oakington FC defences, but bricked at the back, exists at East Moor. It looks post war to me, which is odd as East Moor has very little peace time history. I'll try to post a pic soon as.

This is from Grafton Underwood - is it a Battle HQ?

Nope. It's a (delete as applicable!) mushroom/Oakington/cantaliever/FC Construction/Fairlop pillbox.Originally Posted by TommyUSA
