It's a credit to the people of the area that the well rusted rotary engine, attached to the rough hewn granite pillar, has not been pinched for some aeronautica collection (or its scrap value!). Or maybe it's just too firmly attached for that to be feasible. Anyhow it makes an unusual memorial to Roland Garros, after whom the Cholet airfield is named.
