Haven't found TO 08-20-11 yet, but here's a link to the 1970s version of the system: TB-43-0149 Light Set, Operational Area, Aircraft: 1-1/2KW

Chugging through that thread it seems the cones are temporary portable units, so seeing them where they are in the earlier photos makes sense if they are being used as an AAF equivalent of Glim lamps.
...goes searching for info on the AN/S-2 lighting system....
Edited to add:
AN-S-2
Set, Portable Field Lighting
TO 08-20-11
(All WWII AAF airfield lighting-related Technical Orders are numbered 08-20-xx, but so far trying to get a straight answer from any of the US archives as to which of them hold the copies is an uphill struggle...)

I was back at the Big Dig site this weekend, and in a new trench adjacent to the last one I found some HILV parts.
One inner glass retaining ring with dataplate (Serial number 44-13496), and a fairly complete, if tatty, lower bowl with internals.
I'll get some photos as soon as I unload the car of finds.

Paul

Some quick snaps of the bowl assembly prior to cleaning:
More items inside than Graham's or Parham's examples:

Sadly the central bulbholder was missing.
To the side is mounted this fitting:
Not quite sure what it is though.
The slots on the sides aren't for a bayonet type fitting, being plain rectangular cutouts.

Two of the surviving decals on the inside of the bowl:
From what I've been able to expose, the entire unit seems to have been painted Olive Drab inside and out, with what appears to be a top coat of red on the outside.

I found another decal, this time on the outside on one of the hinge arms:
I've been using T-Cut on a small area of this arm to remove the rust stain, and the outside is indeed painted Olive Drab, as are most parts inside. Very odd.
Comparing the small section of the central bulbholder that remains with other photos in this thread it would appear that the Parham example retains it's original black-painted holder.
Here's a quick snap of the dataplate after it's first rinse:
All the best,
PB
