Hi, my name's Gianni and I’m are passionate about collecting and fixing antiques. We have an old military lamp such as the one described on this forum:

    Line Material Co.
    Patent 2555295
    The Bartlow HIV system

We have an original lamp, however there is no glass cover on our original lamp. We are very keen to find out if any-one knows how or where we can replace the glass on our original lamp and how much it

Alternatively, we would also be interested in purchasing a replacement lamp, if any-one is selling one.

If you have any information about how to get the glass for these lamps, or about how to buy another original lamp, please contact me.

    Thanks!

    Gianni

    HILV at Driffield in 1949?

    http://www.britishpathe.com/video/je...fastest-school

Clearest views of what appear to be HILV lamps are via the stills for 1:46 to 1:50.

There are some nice shots from inside the Tower showing the lighting mimic board etc. straight after too.

    All the best,
    PB

After seeing a couple of new photos we may well be adding Chelveston to the HILV Installations list.

Good News! I recently dug one of these Bartow HILV Runway approach lights out of storage. It is complete and has been saved from the dumps and improper attempts at restoration. It even has the original tool for adjustments still inside the housing, and some extra spare film cuouts in the original line material envelope (well it is fried crispy but is original). If anyone is interested in this light feel free to contact me through the site. I hadn't intended on selling it but I guess anything is possible.
Thanks for the site. Very informative information here!

    * Note the contradiction concerning Rattlesden.
There was apparently one error in the initial transmitted message (Station 104 sent instead of 105), which was noted and a poorly phrased correction sent 10 minutes later, but the Station 126 thing wasn't picked up.

Very interesting Paul. This shows that out of the final total of 70 stations, less than half were equipped, or being fitted just five months before the end of the conflict.
Owing to the random order of the top list, I wonder if this was the order of completion?

There are a number of different papers on the HILV rollout program in the newly-received 1st Air Div files, including Installation Drawing M&E 3131/44.
They also cover the removal and return to stores of the systems after VE Day.

Edit to add: It also covers the specifications and components of the other lighting systems intended or in place at other 8AF stations; CL, AFL MkII, AFL MkIII, etc. plus SBA and the SCS-51 installation details.

I have the outer glass dome and the two red inner lenses from one of these units. I recovered it from Lake Union in Seattle years ago while scuba diving, and discarded the metal base and inner mechanism. It's now located near Boston MA. Is there any market for such an artifact? I'm open to offers! Andy
