had a nose around a few airfields yesterday,
Kingscliffe
Polebrook
Warboys
all were in reasonable condition but as is usual with these the bottom level was flooded.
Next to the one at Warboys is a low roofed bunker with what looked like and escape hatch at one end, anyone know what this was used for, I have not seen one on an airfield before
Also do not trust the Defence of Britain overlay for google earth to much as we found that the placemark for the BHQ at Polebrook was inaccurate, as was the one for Warboys, we also looked for the BHQ at Little Staughton, either the placemark was again wrong or it has been demolished as we could find no trace of it there.
If anyone is thinking of taking a look around Kingscliffe be very careful for 2 reasons, When we were there we were stopped by the farmer who told us there were people in the hides that are scattered around the site, they are shooting deer with high power rifles, also a bird scarer has been placed in the top level of the tower, it went off when we were outside and nearly deafened us, I would hate to think what it would have done to our eardrums had we been in the building.
I took loads of pics of the airfields we visited and have loaded them in here

Dale BHQ seen in July 2010, taken on camera phone unfortunately. Notice Milford Haven behind.
