St Athan BHQ, nicely buried at the lowest part of the airfield in a wooded bank. In good condition.

Pembrey BHQ, new one for me today.
It is situated in a large and high (25ft ish) wooded bund with a fantastic view across the airfield, condition is really good with absolutely no water inside.
It seems to have a central 'projection' coming off from the front, unsure what its is.

I didn't go right in as I didn't have a torch on me, and wasn't sure on structural safety and finding dead bodies etc!

That's probably the usual PBX room, except in this case it's become uncovered.

    All the best,

HMS Ringtail / RNAS Burscough - Newage and I spent about an hour over there today. BHQ is definitely not extant.

    Smile Re: Inside Battle HQ

Maybe I've just been lucky; of the dozen or so that I've seen, very few have been flooded. Two things have interested me though about the ubiquitous 11008/41 though. One is the different levels of the fitting out inside; some are just bare brick, others have variations on painted walls, partial or full electrical fittings and doors or at least the frames. The other more intruging one is the height of the viewing slit from the floor in the OP. I hadn't thought about this until I went to the BHQ at Feltwell. At 5' 10", I'm no midgit, but I couldn't see out of the slit - ! When I measured the height of the bottom of the slit from the floor, it was 6' 2". Someone had obviously realised the cockup later, as there was the remains of a 7" high wooden duckboard on the floor. When I took the same measurement at Thorpe Abbots and Ellough BHQs, the heights were 5' 5" and 5' 9 " respectively. The biscuit has to go to the BHQ at Bodney where the OP has a 12" high hollow concrete hop up, forcing any observer of a 'normal' height to have to crouch down to see out of the slit - ! For the record, on the plans, the floor to ceiling height of the OP is 6' 6".
