I didn't have this one but I do now!
One for the rail buffs I think; I shall see what they can come up with on this and other sites.
You can tell I'm bored! Yet another site I think I have identified.
Alnwick at NGR NU200124.Listed as 1500 tons type C1
This site has now gone, probably due to the A1 being moved next to the site (when?). Not sure how long it lasted after that but the map still shows it there in 1991.
1971
1991
2006

Som info received from George Moffat
Hi have just read a couple of threads regarding the above. The facility was on a site adjacent to the Alnmouth road and was served by a set of sidings on the Alnwick branch line from Alnmouth. The sidings were to the north of the branch line and consisted of a number of roads with walkways alongside them for discharging tanker wagons via gravity to the storage site. I can remember fuel trains using the sidings till at least 1967 the year of closure of the line. The fuel depot definitely lasted longer than that. It may have closed when the nearby RAF Acklington closed. The only fuel required nowadays is for the detatched flight of 202 squadrons Sea Kings at RAF Boulmer.
These people may be able to help as well http://avrs.co.uk/ Alne Valley Railway.
This is useful as well http://www.lner.info/forums/alnwick-...ot-p12816.html
