It is possible that Hinstock was used as a POW camp as I suspect by 1947 repatriation was in full swing and consilidation of those that remained must have occured and also they would, for the most part, have been less of a prison camp.

Maybe there is a POW expert amongst us who might be able to add detail.

This is an interesting subject and I would love to know more.

I think you are spot on i.e less than a prison. The photo shows my father in a football team photo. He and his Kumpel seem very relaxed. He also told me when he was living that they were more or less left unattended in the camp and that they we were dobbed in by a local when having a beer in market drayton town centre!

Just found this one that some unknown sent to me years ago. Hinstock on the back.

This building looks identical to where my father and other German Pows were held in 1947. I have a picture of this with a reference to Hinstock and Chestnut Hostel on the back.

The nearest POW camp to Hinstock is Sherrifhales nr Shifnal which is also on the A41 road were Hinstock is not that far away, could that be your fathers camp ?? only about 10 miles if that, best of luck

just found an official aliens order book dated 1945.In this book he is located at Hawkesstone Park. He then has the book stamped annually up to 1957 by the local constabulary!

Yes your right camp number 240 and 285 at Hawkstone park, which is even closer to Hinstock as the crow flies 3 to 4 mile

It was up for sale in May 2008 when I visited the airfield with NJR, I wonder if it has sold yet?
