200 yard Moving Target Ranges

I think the Fort George range shows up better on the 1:10000 map on Canmore Mapping.

Go to this Canmore record then select "View this site on map". It looks as if the track is marked and it also shows well on Google Earth.

I can't see anything recognisable but this is the general area of the track visible on the Fort George range on the 1:10000 map.

Thanks Martin, the overall growth of buckthorn (?) makes it impossible to see any remains of the protective banking and track and only in the aerial view and map can one see the trace. Both the Turret House and the Target Control Building have been demolished.

Photos online elsewhere sadly show the roof of the Shelter/Workshop at Theddlethorpe has finally collapsed.

Inevitable I suppose. Actually the 200yd MTR would make a good working exhibit at somewhere like Duxford. You would have to use lasers rather than guns but it would give us kids something to play with

Regarding Fort George MTR, this is now covered by the latest 1946 update in the RCAHMS TAR website. Below is hopefully the link to the KMZ file that shows the latest additions. It also includes bits of Thailand.

One of the range quadrant buildings might be on the plan if it goes far enough west.

I have taken a few pics of whats left off the arrow before it falls into the sea, taken 1/1/13







and the bank seen on the O/S map next to the arrow



There are two observation huts still in situ located at Grid/Ref
SH 27311 27266, on the cliff overlooking the range

SH 23035 28162, not far from the NT house at Plas yn Rhiw.

These next 2 are off a pipe may not be range related but if you look in the background you can see the Trapezium in a direct line to the said pipe, as the sand dunes have eroded over the years it may be ?
