Was there anything on Canmore's aerial photos, apart from 1988? Some of the oblique photographs are very useful, if a tad early (1941-2) for a lot of features.

I'm still looking at CANMORE images but nothing significant so far. As usual, I sidetracked onto this when looking at something else and feel compelled to follow-up!

The subject of WW2 aviation fuel depots had a 'good run' on AiX a couple of years ago and we exposed a great deal but there are many loose ends. I am also looking at Port Ellen (Bowmore) depot and will put that up as a separate thread when I know more.

The tanks at Bowmore were just West of the "round church", now a housing estate but you can still see the footprint of each one tank I think.

I did not get a reply from the Bowmore local council when I queried the location so put my 'marker' on exactly that point just west of the church.

There seems to be one to the left of the road in that first URL.

Neil Owen's book on RAF Oban has a 1941 oblique of Bowmore. It is not very clear but I think one tank is just visible at the edge which could correspond to that one.

The wartime film "Coastal Command" has a beautiful shot of a Sunderland flying directly over the round church and along the line of the main street, very low.

Again I am confused. I recently posted 'Hoy' as an aviation fuel site having used the Search function and menu without seeing it covered although there was something in my mind.

Now I think that we have two threads on the same thing.

Is the Decontamination Building the mounded structure directly to the west of the level crossing here?
