This photograph could be placed almost anywhere in East Anglia but as I photographed it in Bury St Edmunds two weeks ago I guess it would be appropriate to place it under the Rougham thread

Doesn't seem like nearly twenty years ago.

Well you certainly placed it in the right place John. The image of an airman looking skywards [same as on the cover of the 50th anniversary souvenir map] was taken from a photograph of General Frederick W Castle former CO of the 94th BG. He was photographed chatting to one of his Pilots of the 487th BG just before he [Castle] was about to lead the Third Division on a raid in support of the ground battle in the Ardennes 24-12-1944. Sadly General Castle was killed during this, but not before holding the doomed aircraft steady long enough for most his crew to bale-out.

The approach to Rougham Industrial estate/airfield is named after General Castle, anyone going to the airshow there in 12 days time?

Bury St Eds Rose Garden, this seat was made out of a B17 wing and donated to the townspeople of Bury by the USAAF in 1945

Bring your own parachute! Nice memorial though.

It looks a lot better now than it did in 1986 when I first saw it. Seems like it's well looked after which is good to know.
