Doesn't seem like nearly twenty years ago.

Well you certainly placed it in the right place John. The image of an airman looking skywards [same as on the cover of the 50th anniversary souvenir map] was taken from a photograph of General Frederick W Castle former CO of the 94th BG. He was photographed chatting to one of his Pilots of the 487th BG just before he [Castle] was about to lead the Third Division on a raid in support of the ground battle in the Ardennes 24-12-1944. Sadly General Castle was killed during this, but not before holding the doomed aircraft steady long enough for most his crew to bale-out.

The approach to Rougham Industrial estate/airfield is named after General Castle, anyone going to the airshow there in 12 days time?

That was a fantastic show, must keep August diary free for 2011, I took 901 pics, still sorting them out, also nice to have the sun on our backs for getting those 'special shots', there were so may highlights, but to pick out a couple was 434 escorting Sally B 'home', 434 doing a replacement show for the BBMF and a very late arrival of 22 Sqn Sea King when most were queuing in the cars to get off the cornfield. these latter guys had a very busy day and credit to them for an impromptu display

We (SLROC) are allowed access to a small part of the Rougham Park area which is where the bomb dump is situated in order to create a 'Green Lane experience course which is used for a couple of events a year. We have tried to be as sympathetic to the existing infrastructure as possible, keeping to the many tracks and, despite the numerous opportunities, not driving over anything that remotely looks like a revetement. Driving around there, I get goose bumps thinking how it must have been when the base was operational.
Some of us have been down into the underground bit airfield side as well.

Finally had time to sort out the bomb dump pics I took last month.
Apologies if there are too many, too big. I can soon remove them and supply a P-B link instead if that should be the case.

This map is a key to the areas where the photo's were taken from.

So firstly down near the A14 is what on my map states 'Broadcasting Installation'.
It's inside a spinney and looks more like a dunny but I'm no expert. (pics 1-4)

Just N of the above is this small concrete area that appears to be the Briefing Rooms - Operations Block. (pic5)

These two shots seem to tie up with what seems to be 'Sea Markers' on the map. The bottom one looks to line up approximately with the Grenade Store. (pics 6-7)

This track goes across the paddock and joins another track that crosses the site E/W. (pic
