    It's remarkable that signs are still there after how many years since removal? Maybe we should compile a list of runway removal dates for affected airfields?

    What is going on in the lower left of the photo? Looks like mounds of dirt in a crosshatch pattern and lots of tire tracks.

    Not a pig farm Alistair, although there are plenty of those in the area. At the Barnham one the digger was still there and seemed to be smearing out the heaps of soil from his previous excavation:

    Mmm, that last one looks very much like an archaeological excavation prior to development - the statutory 2% trial trenching...........

    There is an interesting link here to the historical importance of the cold war bomb store - perhaps at one time at risk from this development? Check out the SCC planning files for English Heritage consultation, a fair way down this list:
