    I believe most of the site has been HMP Kirkham since the early 1960s.

    Ah that is interesting given that some of the original buildings including hangars are extant. Shall get onto the Gov straight away.

    Yes RAF Kirkham along with a lot of other RAF stations is now a prison, been there a few tims to drop off and pick up prisoners. Yes the hangars are still there and most of the buildings have been refurbished.

    Some further info found here. The area top left, now a wood, looks like it was once part of the camp. A public footpath runs alongside, so it might be accessible ?

    Re image 5. I find it surprising that an RAF Instructor should be teaching Sperry Ball Turret to USAAF in 1943.

    Re image 3 - assuming that it shows a location at Kirkham, does anyone know where that stop butt was located?

    Re image 2 - My instructor on Hispano 20mm in 1957 was the late Michael J.F. Bowyer

    The stop butts appear to be visible in the aerial photo, immediately below the furthest left pair of hangars.
